Senior Data Engineer (Freelance Role)

We are supporting a large international consumer-focused organisation that is investing heavily in building its internal data engineering capability as part of a wider enterprise data transformation initiative.

They are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a growing central engineering team focused on building a large-scale Consumer Data Platform used across marketing, customer insight, and commercial initiatives throughout Europe.

This is a highly technical engineering role focused on developing scalable cloud-based data solutions, modern transformation pipelines, and enterprise-grade data models within a governed global environment.

The organisation is actively moving toward a stronger internal engineering model, reducing reliance on external consulting partners and building a more scalable, engineering-led data function.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and develop scalable cloud-based data pipelines and transformation frameworks
• Support the development of a large-scale Consumer Data Platform
• Design and optimise enterprise data models and warehouse structures
• Develop modular transformation pipelines using DBT and SQL
• Integrate data from multiple enterprise and digital sources, including customer and marketing platforms
• Ensure data quality, governance, testing, and pipeline reliability
• Collaborate closely with data, analytics, and business stakeholders across Europe
• Contribute to engineering standards, scalability, and platform optimisation initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience as a Data Engineer within modern cloud environments
• Advanced Python and SQL engineering capability
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake
• Strong experience with DBT (Data Build Tool)
• Experience building scalable enterprise data warehousing solutions
• Strong understanding of data modelling and pipeline optimisation
• Experience working within large, governed enterprise environments
• Engineering mindset with strong ownership and problem-solving capability
