This role sits at the core of a fast-moving product team building a next-generation social and video-driven mobile experience used by millions of users. You will contribute to the development of scalable backend services and user-facing features that directly shape how people discover, interact with, and engage in digital content. Operating in a startup-like environment, the team emphasizes speed, experimentation, and continuous learning over heavy architecture or long release cycles. You will collaborate closely with mobile engineers, product managers, and QA to ship impactful features and rapidly validate ideas with real users. The focus is on building, testing, iterating, and improving features that drive measurable user value. This is a highly product-oriented role where engineering decisions are tightly connected to real-world user behavior and engagement.
Accountabilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs (REST and GraphQL) powering a mobile-first B2C application.
- Develop and evolve backend features using Python (asyncio) while ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with iOS, Android, Product, and QA teams to deliver and iterate on user-facing features.
- Contribute to an event-driven and asynchronous architecture using messaging systems and modern backend patterns.
- Rapidly prototype, test, and iterate on features based on user feedback and product experimentation results.
- Take ownership of backend performance, observability, and system stability in production environments.
- Participate in technical decisions and contribute to pragmatic architectural evolution aligned with product needs.
- Support a culture of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement across the engineering team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in backend development with strong expertise in Python and SQL databases.
- Solid experience building scalable APIs and working with asynchronous or event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with messaging systems (e.g., queues) and distributed system design.
- Strong understanding of backend performance, scalability, and production reliability challenges.
- Experience in fast-paced, product-driven environments (startup or B2C applications is a plus).
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to leverage analytics to guide technical and product decisions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic and results-oriented approach.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional teams with strong collaboration skills.
- Fluent in English; French is a plus.
- Interest in experimentation, product metrics, and building user-facing digital experiences.
