Optimisation and Trading Analytical Team
The Optimisation and Trading Analytical Team, a dynamic group of 10 professionals based in both Paris and London, is part of EDFT's energy market analytics.
Our team's primary mission is to develop sophisticated market forecasting models and asset optimisation tools. These tools are instrumental in supporting EDF Trading's proprietary activities and optimising the EDF Group portfolio.
The team efforts are directed towards both the short-term electricity markets as well as the longer-term horizon and other commodities. We work closely with the trading desks and other analyst teams in both locations, fostering a collaborative environment that drives our success.
Position purpose
We are seeking an analyst with a keen interest in the energy sector and power markets. This role presents an opportunity to be at the forefront of our analytical tools for short-term power markets analysis (spanning from intraday to two weeks-ahead).
As a member of our Paris team, you will contribute to analytics for the short-term power markets which support both the EDF portfolio optimisation and EDFT proprietary trading activities by improving our models based on optimisation and data science. Your work will involve communicating with internal stakeholders such as power analysts, software engineers and traders.
In the initial stage of your position, you will contribute to the development and support of our applications, providing you with a practical understanding of the methodology and key factors essential for accurate price modelling and forecasting within power markets.
As your experience develops, you will assume increased responsibility for the technical direction of projects, applying advanced market insights and sophisticated mathematical modelling techniques to refine existing models and drive innovative solutions.
Main responsibilities
In this role your responsibilities will include:
- Model development: development and enhancement of our applications for modelling and analysing short-term power markets.
- Analysis and trading desk support: support to power trading desks by producing bespoke analytics on identified topics to improve performance, while ensuring application stability and reliability.
- Innovative approaches: exploring and proposing modelling approaches to enhance our analytics (machine learning, mathematical modelling, ...).
- Team collaboration: work in synergy with other teams of analysts located in Paris and London. This role will involve occasional travel to our London office.
Experience required
First experience (3+ years) in the development of analytics/modelling in the energy sector
Technical requirements
Key requirements:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Power market experience (power market modelling/ asset optimisation/ portfolio management/ trading/ risk)
- Programming proficiency (object-oriented programming)
- Ability to understand the wider commercial implications of projects
- Knowledge of mathematical optimisation or data science
- Higher education degree in a quantitative subject (Math, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Beneficial skills and experience:
- Electricity portfolio optimisation
- Technical stack: experience in Java, Python, SQL and noSQL databases, cloud tools (Azure)

Hours of work:
