About the Role

Canonical is seeking a passionate Technical Manager for our Automotive and Industrial division. This role focuses on leveraging open-source solutions and precision engineering to meet the stringent requirements of these industries. You will lead a team in adapting Canonical's products, ensuring they align with industry standards and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Management to shape the vision and strategy for automotive solutions at Canonical.
  • Develop and execute an engineering roadmap for the automotive team.
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical within the automotive community, including customers, partners, and standards consortia.
  • Lead the strategy for Canonical's Linux distribution and open-source software in the automotive sector.
  • Build, lead, and coordinate a globally distributed team of engineers.
  • Foster skill development through coaching, feedback, and technical leadership.
  • Manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Promote modern, agile software development practices.
  • Contribute to the development and evangelization of engineering and organizational best practices.
  • Cultivate a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
  • Work remotely with occasional international travel (up to two weeks annually) for company events.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in software engineering, Linux, and open source.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux packages and embedded development.
  • Familiarity with automotive and industrial standards such as ISO21434, ISO26262, SOTIF, IEC 61508.
  • Experience leading product development compliant with relevant standards.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming.
  • Practical experience in the automotive sector, including functional safety, embedded systems, and cloud technologies.
  • Proven experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers.
  • Track record of delivering high-quality software on time.
  • Passion for developing and growing individuals.
  • Experience in agile development environments.
